Goldie M. Shump, 87, of Sabetha, KS, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Sabetha Manor care home where she had been a resident since July 1999.
Goldie Mary Stauffer was born March 4, 1918, on a farm near Oneida, KS, the daughter of Albrecht and Rosa Widmer Stauffer. She grew up there, attended a rural school, and helped on the family farm. In the late 1930s she moved to California and worked there as a florist before returning to Kansas.
She married Karl Shump on June 1, 1944 in Sabetha. They lived in Sabetha where they had a trucking business, and owed and operated Shump’s Liquor Store for 28 years. Her husband preceded her in death on June 10, 1979.
She attended Sacred Heart Church in Sabetha. Goldie enjoyed playing golf. She also quilted and took good care of her yard and flowers.
Survivors are three sons, Karl Shump, Jr. of Durham, NH, Donald Shump of Burbank, CA, and William Shump of Newton, IA; and two grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ruben Stauffer; and four sisters, Rosena Stauffer, Lena Stauffer, Metta Hochstetler, and Liseta Crown.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Family will meet with friends for a half hour preceding the service. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca.
