Virginia G. Sanders

SENECA, KS

Virginia G. Sanders, 94, of Seneca Ks, passed away on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, at Life Care Center of Seneca where she had lived for the past five years.

She was born on August 5th, 1930 to Henry and Emma Roeder Stuke in Seneca, Ks. She attended Seneca Public High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. She married Raymond B. Sanders on June 22nd, 1948 in Seneca.

She was a stay-at-home Mom while they owned and operated Sanders Auto Body Shop. In the summers they custom combined wheat and milo from Oklahoma to South Dakota. They also owned and operated the Ford dealership on West Hwy 36 in Seneca from 1955 until 1966.

Over the years Virginia was also employed by Crestview Manor in the laundry department, Nemaha Valley High School as a cook and Country View Estates Care Home (now Life Care Center) as a Certified Nurse’s Aide, retiring from there in 2000 after 20 years of service.

Virginia loved going to auctions to buy antiques. She started collecting vintage glassware and pieces of oak furniture that she would restore to their former beauty. Her hobby turned into a business when they opened Sanders Antiques which was located in their home in Seneca from 1974 until 1985.

Virginia was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She prayed for her children and their families. They meant everything to her.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Raymond, December 14th, 2000, her sister Esther Holthaus (Oddie,) son-in-law Lee Horton, (Deborah) a daughter Deborah Horton and daughter-in-law Glenda Sanders (David).

Survivors include sons, Daniel (Mary) Sanders of Topeka, David Sanders of Topeka; daughters, Sheryl (Jerry) Huerter of Lecompton, Ks, Julie Boeding of Seneca, sister Jeanette Pinzino of Seneca; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A rosary will be prayed at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 22nd at 10:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Raymond in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials for Virginia will be designated at a later date.

    I’ll miss Virginia just like I miss her sister Esther. The personalities of those Stuke girls cannot be beat. Virginia always made me smile. My sympathies go out to the entire family. God bless all of you!!! You all are such a great family.
