Evelyn A. Gleason

Evelyn A. Gleason, 87, of Seneca, Kansas, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

She was born on August 2, 1924 to Paul and Clare (Brown) Goodman in Stegar, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, the oldest of eight children. She attended school in Chicago, and Bancroft, Kansas, and graduated from Goff High School in Goff, Kansas. During those years, she lettered in basketball and enjoyed playing tennis as well as softball.

Evelyn married William M. Gleason, Jr., October 28, 1945 at her parents’ home in Bancroft. She and Bill lived in Goff before moving to Seneca in 1960 when they started the Gleason Chevrolet car dealership.

While still in high school, she worked at the Goff Poultry and Egg Plant and also at Wink’s Grocery. She was the bookkeeper and notary at Gleason Chevrolet for 43 years. She and Bill traveled to such places as Hawaii, Germany, Paris, and Tahiti. Her husband Bill surives of the home.

She was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Business and Professional Women (BPW). She enjoyed crochet, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred Chase; her brothers, Paul Goodman, Jr., Glenn Goodman and an infant brother Galen.

Besides her husband Bill survivors include two sons, Roger (Jolene) Gleason of Parkville, Missouri; Dennis (Betty) Gleason of Seneca; a daughter, Sondra (Kent) Rogers of Manhattan, Kansas; a sister, Virginia Blake of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Darwin Goodman of Topeka and Loren Goodman of Silver Lake; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 PM Friday, July 6, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The celebration of life service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 7, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.

The memorial beneficiary will designated at a later date; donations can be sent in care of the family.
