Rose Zella Boeding

Rose Zella Boeding, 96, of Seneca, Kansas, died on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.

She was born on May 3, 1916 in Humbolt, Nebraska, the daughter of John Frederick and Ruby E. Sypherd Luginbill. She attended the rural Eagle Star School and one year of high school in the Bern, Kansas community. After school she helped out the elderly in Bern and surrounding communities. While working at a bakery in Seneca she met her future husband Norbert.

Rose Zella married Norbert “Nub” Boeding on August 7, 1940 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Rose Zella worked for the Dairy Queen and the Starlite Motel in Seneca. In 1964 she and Nub started running the Knights of Columbus Clubroom, until they retired in 1978.

They were married 54 years before Nub preceded her in death on September 14, 1994. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Kay; brothers, William, Harold, Fritz, George, Allen and Lyle Luginbill; and a sister, Lily Claas.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and baking.

She is survived by a son, Joe (Darlene) of Topeka; seven daughters, Karen (Danny) Henry of Seneca, Judy (Vern) Hutfles of Onaga, Paula (Eldon) Fleury of Seneca, Donna (Frank) Maskil of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Pat (Danny) Deters of Corning, Joanie (Rick) Clelland of Topeka, and Marilyn (Tom) Nolte of Centralia; a sister, Eva Krotzinger, of Seneca; 23 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Saturday, July 14, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Friday, July 13, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given in Rose Zella’s memory for Coins for a Cause or the Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund, and sent in care of the family.
