Sylvester J. "Skall" Boeding

Sylvester J. “Skall” Boeding, 91, of Seneca, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his home.
Skall, as he was known, was born November 23, 1921, on a farm southwest of Kelly, the son of Conrad and Mary Waller Boeding. He attended St. Patrick’s Grade School in Corning and graduated from Corning Rural High School in May of 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater from August 11, 1942 until November 12, 1945 as a clerk and medic.
On September 16, 1949 he married Teresa Mahoney at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage. His interests in life were woodworking, hunting and fishing. He loved visiting with family and friends.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph Society at the church. He was also a member of the American Legion Arthur Mills Post #21 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; three sons, Dan (Pam) of Topeka, Steve (Julie) and Phil (Barb) of Seneca; four daughters, Joan (Bob) McKinley of Axtell, Linda (Dennis) Roeder of Frankfort, Ann (John) Bahr of Wichita and Karen (Jay) Rohleder of West Chester, Pennsylvannia; and 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Aloysius, Conrad, Joseph, and Lambert; his sisters, Lena Gudenkauf, Odelia “Tillie” Buessing, Ann Kramer, Mary Kohake, Clara Droge, and an infant sister, Margaret Boeding.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Friday, February 1, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 2, at the Seneca Knights of Columbus Hall. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Skall’s memory to Sts. Peter & Paul Renovation or Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, and sent in care of the family.
