Alice A. Payne, 53, of Oneida, Kansas, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at her home.

Alice Ann was born January 10, 1960 to Alvin R. and Lorene C. Koelzer Olberding. She graduated from B&B High School in Baileyville in 1978.

After school she went to work at Fort Markley in Seneca. She was also a bartender at Jesse’s Hide Out for a short time. In 1978, she started work at Country View Estates nursing home in Seneca, later renamed Life Care Center. She was employed there until the time of her death. In 1984 she studied to become an LPN at Kaw Valley Vocational School in Topeka, and graduated in 1986.

On January 3, 1986 she married Stephen C. Payne in Seneca.

Alice was a gardener of both flowers and vegetables; she also enjoyed canning and cooking the fruits of her labors. She was also proud of her wine making.

She is survived by her husband Steve of 27 years; her mother Lorene Olberding of Baileyville; and many cousins.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM Thursday, April 4, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery.

Memorials may be given for Life Care Center’s Activity Fund, and sent in care of the family.
