Patty L. Unger, 64, of Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Centralia, died suddenly Friday morning, May 10, 2013, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

Patty Lou Griffiths Unger was born on February 12, 1949 to G. Gordon and Mary Warrenburg Griffiths, and grew up on a farm near Centralia. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1967.

She married Burt A. Unger on October 5, 1980 at the Centralia United Methodist Church. They lived in Topeka where Patty worked for Walgreens for 43 years, until her retirement in 2011.

She was a member of the Centralia United Methodist Church, the Ward-Meade Garden Club, Great Adventure Travel Tours, Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and an interfaith women’s Christian group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dolores Shumaker; and her brother, Max “Bob” Griffiths.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Burt of Topeka; and her brother, Ron (Linda) Griffiths of Topeka.

Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, May 14, at the United Methodist Church in Centralia. Family will meet with friends at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Centralia City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given for the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and/or the Ward-Meade Garden Club, and sent in care of Lauer Funeral Home.
