Lawrence U. "Larry" Huber

Seneca, KS

Lawrence U. “Larry” Huber, 65, of Seneca, KS, died Sunday morning, May 14, 2006 at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born on March 21, 1941 in Houston, TX, the son of Matthias and Verna Maelzer Huber. In 1950 his family moved back to Seneca, where he graduated in 1959 from the Seneca Public High School. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force for four years; he later rejoined and served his country for another 18 years. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

After retiring from the military he did “odd jobs” in North Carolina, and then returned to Seneca and worked for Wayne Neff. He also owned and operated Checkers Bar and Restaurant in Fairview, KS.

In 1972 he married Margaret Benwell in England; they later divorced.

He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Seneca. He had a lifelong interest in traveling, and also enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two brothers, Michael of Seneca and John of New Born, NC; and four sisters, Laura Hardison of New Born, NC, Suzanne Baker of Tonganoxie, KS, Irene Spring of Independence, MO, and Helen McKinsey of Louisville, KY.

Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 PM Thursday, May 18, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Funeral service will be 2 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Centralia Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Seneca VFW and American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be given for the American Legion Baseball Program, and sent in care of the family.
