Dorothy H. Roeder, 84, of Seneca, KS, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Crestview Manor Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.
Dorothy, the daughter of Edward and Katherine Russ Altenhofen, was born on July 23, 1929, east of Kelly, Kansas. When she was a child the family moved to Dr. Murdock’s farm north of Goff, she attended Sts. Peter and Paul School in Seneca. She later graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School in 1948. As a young girl she worked at Carmen’s Variety Store.
She married John H. Roeder on October 3, 1949 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She worked for Paramount Cleaners, and took on sewing projects in her home. In 1981, John and Dorothy bought the Huddle Restaurant which they ran until 1994.
Dorothy was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, St. Ann’s Altar Society, Seneca BPW, American Legion Auxiliary, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and LCBA (Loyal Christian Benefit Association). She enjoyed cooking, embroidering, sewing, Bingo and word find puzzles. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a devoted, caring, and loving wife, mother who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Bridget Roeder of Seneca; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul, Virgil, Justin and Kenneth Altenhofen; and her sisters, Hilda Levret, Bertha Haug and Elsie Altenhofen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 23, at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given in Dorothy’s memory for Sts. Peter and Paul’s Church, the Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society, and sent in care of the family.
