Mike Hynek

Michel “Mike” J. Hynek, 35, of Kelly, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born on March 3, 1978 in Seneca, Kansas to Rick and Karen Hynek. He was active in sports; kids wrestling, football and Legion softball. He graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1996. He attended Kansas State University. He worked for Honeyman Ford and Tom Kramer Construction. He was employed at Nemaha County Co-Op from 2006 until his death.
He married Lori Chilson on June 17, 2006 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. The couple made their home west of Kelly on his grandparents’ family farm. Mike loved the outdoors and treasured the time he spent hunting, trapping and fishing with his family. He took great pride in raising a large vegetable garden and gifting the fruits of his labor.
He was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and the Kelly Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of the Corning Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dylan Hynek; and grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Haverkamp and Joseph and Mary Hynek.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Hynek and children, Caleb and Lena Hynek all of the home; parents, Rick and Karen Hynek of Seneca; brothers, Chris Hynek and Brad Hynek both of Seneca; and parents-in-laws, Leland and Barbara Chilson of Seneca.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, February 7, 2014, at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 &7 PM on Thursday, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be left in Mike’s memory to, the Caleb and Lena Hynek Education Fund.
