Regis A. Henry

Regis Anthony Henry, of Centralia, KS, passed away at the age of 76, on Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
Regis Anthony Henry “Peewee” was born June 3, 1937 south of Seneca, Kansas to Joseph and Hedwig (Waller) Henry. The family moved from Seneca to Corning in 1944. He attended school in Corning, Kansas; and graduated with the Class of 1955. After graduating from high school he moved to Conception, MO where he milked cows for the Benedictine Sisters at the Abbey. In 1955, he entered the Army and served two years in Germany. The remaining four years of his service duty was served as a reservist in Corning. After he was discharged from the Army he moved to Kansas City and worked at a Marchant Calculators, where he repaired calculators and typewriters. While working in Kansas City he met the love of his life Lucina (Cindy) Steinlage. They were married on May 21, 1959 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church, Kelly, Kansas. After they were married they lived in Kansas City for two more years then moved to the family farm two and half miles east of Centralia were they started a dairy. Dairy and farming were a big part of their lives until 1998. To this union were born seven children.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Alter Society, Knights of Columbus #1769 where he served as Grand Knight, the Fourth Degree Ponce de Leon Assembly where he served as a faithful navigator, School Board Member Kelly Schools, and St. Bede’s Catholic Church where he served on Church Council, and Mid-America Dairy Association. Hobbies include trips to the casino (especially those trips to Las Vegas) and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed a good card game with family and friends especially “Schafskopf” and bowling. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting up the Kelly Baseball Association where he coached all of his sons.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years; children, Kevin Henry of Centralia, Chris (Erin) Henry of Seneca, Roger (Nancy) Henry of Topeka, Vicki (Tom) Adams of Frankfort, Brian (Tracy) Henry of Alma, Keith (Dawnn) Henry of Centralia and Darrin (Kristen) Henry of Rossville; siblings, Edith (Ray) Rombeck of Topeka, Francis Henry of Wetmore, Robert (Mary Ann) Henry of Seneca, James (Jane) Henry of Seneca, Lawrence (Norma) Henry of Tulsa, OK, Kenneth (Dorothy) Henry of Topeka, Mary Jo (Charles) Barrett of Charlotte, NC, and Dennis (Joyce) Henry of Seneca; and 17 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Hedwig; and brothers, Joseph Jr., Donald and Richard.
Rosaries will be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 2 and 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bede’s on April 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at St. Bede’s Cemetery, Kelly, KS.
Memorials are for Dialysis Unit at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.
