Edward L. Frehe

Edward L. Frehe, 86, of Seneca, Kansas died on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born December 4, 1928, on a farm southeast of Seneca, Kansas the son of Fred and Elizabeth Lackey Frehe. He attended Humphrey Country School and St. Peter and Paul Schools. He worked on the family farm. In 1947 he worked at the Farmers Elevator Co. in Seneca. He also helped in harvesting wheat in Kansas, Colorado and North & South Dakota for several years.
On August 8, 1950 he married Elaine M. Speilman at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas. The couple initially made their home in Seneca. On December 27, 1950, Edward joined the U.S. Navy as a boatsmate in Omaha, Nebraska. He also spent time aboard a ship in the Mediteranian and in Guam. He served on the ships, uss Juneau CLAA 119, US Navsta, NTC, Great Lakes, ILL. In October of 1954 he was discharged from the navy as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class, USN-1. The couple returned to Seneca and began farming Jack and Tom Graney’s farm northeast of Seneca. In 1960, they moved to their present homestead, a farm southeast of Seneca; they farmed and raised livestock.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church,, Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Earl W. Taylor Post #21, the U.S.S. Juneau Association and the Knights of Columbus 1769 for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Frehe and Daniel Frehe; and a sister, Patricia Gonzales.
Survivors besides his wife Elaine are two sons, Michael (Mindy) Frehe of Desoto, Kansas and Dale Frehe of DuBois, Nebraska; two daughters, Joyce (Ron) Heiman of Topeka and Judy Todd of Lawrence; a sister, Marilyn Flott of Topeka; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed on Thursday, February 5th at 7 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Full military honors will be provided by the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Earl W. Taylor Post #21. A flag line will be provided by the American Legion Riders Post #21.
Memorial contributions may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School.
