Arthur J. Tangeman, 81, of Seneca, Kansas died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Onaga Community Hospital in Onaga, Kansas.
Art as he was fondly called was born on the family farm south of Seneca, on March 27, 1933 to Julius and Bertha Wichman Tangeman. He attended and graduated in 1951 from Sts. Peter & Paul High School. Art served his country during the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army for two years. He received a double bachelor’s degree in business and dairy science in 1959 from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.
On August 31, 1957, he married Marilyn Rochel at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The couple lived in Manhattan, Kansas, until 1960 when they moved to Waverly, Iowa. Art was employed for 25 years by Carnation-Nestle USA. They moved to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin in 1961. In 1967 he was transferred back to Waverly, they moved back to Oconomowoc in 1969. He was employed by Lake Country Foods for 11 years. He retired in 1995. After losing Marilyn to cancer on September 11, 2000, Art moved back to live on her family’s farm on Highway 63, south of Seneca.
On December 28, 2002 he married Janie (Mary Jane) Woltkamp Conley at Queen of the Holy Rosary in Overland Park, Kansas. The couple enjoyed traveling to Mesa, Arizona, to avoid the Kansas winters. He was a former member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Oconomowoc and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He was also a member of the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the VFW.
Survivors besides his wife Janie, are a daughter, Julia (Dan) McQueen of Sweden, Maine; two sons, Jeffrey Tangeman of Waukon, Iowa and Thomas (Julie) Tangeman of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandsons, Robert and Gunnar Tangeman; his brother, Ed Tangeman of Seneca; two step-daughters, Julie Cannady of Prairie Village, Kansas and Jill (Rick) Harris of Shawnee, Kansas; and step grandchildren, Paige and Ross Cannady and Kiefer and Kyle Harris. Besides his wife, Marilyn, he was preceded in death by a brother, Victor H. Tangeman in 2011 and his sister, Anna Marie Engel in 2014.
A Rosary will be prayed at 2 PM on Monday, February 23, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca, with full military honors.
