Eugene R. Stallbaumer

Seneca, Kansas

Eugene R. Stallbaumer, 81, of Seneca, Kansas, died Tuesday morning, March 13, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born July 4, 1925, on a farm north of Baileyville, Kansas, the son of Allie A. and Frances E. Luckeroth Stallbaumer. He grew up there, attended St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict, Sts. Peter & Paul School in Seneca, and graduated from Baileyville High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Aleutian Islands with the engineering corps. He was discharged in 1946 and returned home to farm.

On November 25, 1947, he married Aurelia Niekamp at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived northwest of Baileyville for 42 years where they farmed, raised cattle, and operated a small dairy. In the spring of 1990, they retired and moved to Seneca. She survives the home.

Eugene was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, the St. Joseph Society, the Knights of Columbus #1769, the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Seneca. He served as treasurer of Clear Creek Township Board from 198088, was a member of the Nemaha County Fair Board, and the Board for the Nemaha County Sheltered Workshop. He enjoyed farming, gardening, sports, and his family. He also volunteered at the Sts. Peter & Paul Mission Center.

Survivors besides his wife are three daughters, Connie Caffrey of Columbia, Missouri, Sandra Hazlett of Topeka, and Laurie Stallbaumer of the home; two brothers, Mark and Gilbert Stallbaumer, both of Seneca; two sisters, Irene Niekamp and Dorothy Heiman, both of Seneca; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Friday, March 16, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM on Thursday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School or the Nemaha County Training Center, and sent in care of the family.
