Dorothy Ann Deters

Dorothy Ann Deters, 83, of Seneca died on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Life Care Center in Seneca.
Dorothy was born July 13, 1933 in Corning, Kansas the daughter of Willis Wilfred and Elizabeth F. Rethman Walters. Dorothy grew up in Corning and went to school at the Corning Public school; graduating from high school in 1950. As a young woman, she went to work for Skiles Telephone Company in Corning before going to work at the Browns telephone company in Centralia.
On April 22, 1954 Dorothy married Raymond L. Deters at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning. As a young couple, they farmed south of Baileyville for a couple of years; then moved to Vermillion for four years. In 1962, they moved to a farm east of Seneca; and then in 1973 they bought the farm south of Seneca where she resided until her passing.
Dorothy had many interests in her life but really enjoyed casino trips, quilting, baking, cooking and working in her garden. She was an animal lover, especially her kittens.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, a 60-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Carl (Frances) Deters of Topeka, Kathleen Houser of Topeka, Susan (Galen) Huninghake of Baileyville, Thomas (Julene) Deters of Baileyville, Geraldine (Stephen) Staley of Centralia, Wayne (Stacy) Deters of Springfield, MO, Marvin (Danita) Deters of Manhattan, Betty Deters of Seneca and Vern (Gail) Deters of Seneca; Two brothers, Larry Walters of Lenexa, Lyle Walters of Warrensburg, Missouri, five sisters, Mary Morrison of Warrensburg, Missouri, Lela Walters of Seneca, Helen Hurla of Liberty Missouri, Wanda Horton of Troy and Barbara Warford of Wymore, Nebraska. 19 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Dorothy in death was her husband of 62 years, Raymond on May 11, 2016; her parents; daughter, Connie Diane Deters on April 8, 1959; and two sisters, Joyce Fiala and Edith Broxterman.
Rosaries are Friday, January 27th at 2 and 7 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10 A.M. at Sts. Peter & Paul in Seneca.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, in Baileyville; she will be laid to rest next to her husband and her daughter, Connie.
