Dean P. Gibson

Dean P. Gibson, 92, of Oketo, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Crestview Nursing and Residential Living in Seneca.
Dean was born on September 21, 1924 in the Balderson Township near Oketo, to George and Wilma Krug Gibson. Dean attended Cook Country School District #84 in Balderson Township and completed 8th grade. As a young man, he stayed on the farm and help his father.
On June 6, 1944, he married Ester Geihsler at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville, Kansas. The newlyweds made their home on Dean’s family farm, which became their lifelong home. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage; prior to Esther death on October 28, 2009.
Dean was a farmer and a stockman all his life, raising crops and livestock was what he truly enjoyed. In his spare time, he did a little carpentering and in his later years her enjoyed raising a vegetable garden. Dean served on the Balderson Township Board for a few years.
Dean is survived by his sons, Steven(Sandra) Gibson of Oketo, Kansas, Jerold (Cynthia) Gibson of Afton, Iowa and Daniel (Karen) Gibson of Merriam, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Dean was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shelly Lyn Gibson on July 21, 1987; and siblings, Mildred Funke Ditsworth, Laverne Funke, Inez Gibson Loftin and John (Jack) Gibson.
The family has chosen cremation and a service will be at a later date at Mission Creek Cemetery near Summerfield, Kansas.
