Gracha O. "Grace" Schuneman

Gracha O. “Grace” Schuneman, 86, of Seneca, KS, died Thursday afternoon, July 12, 2007, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

She was born on November 17, 1920, on a farm southwest of Centralia, KS to Delbert and Avis Gose Holland. She spent her childhood on the family farm, attended the Windy Ridge Country School, and later attended the Lincoln Country School south of Seneca. Gracha also attended the Seneca Public High School for a year. After her schooling, she worked as a housekeeper in the Ford community.

In March 12, 1940, she married Earl E. Schuneman at the courthouse in Marysville, KS. They made their home in the Ford community and lived on the Schuneman homestead. They raised two daughters and spent 59 years of marriage together, until Earl’s death on October 12, 1999.

Grace was a homemaker and a loving mother to her two daughters. She worked as a nurse’s aide and in housekeeping department at Crestview Manor care home for several years; and after her husband’s death, she made Crestview Manor her home. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbor Club and the Woodlawn Baptist Church, where she taught adult Sunday school. During the Korean War, she made many gauze pads for the soldiers. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, and reading.

Besides her husband Earl she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ernest Claycamp on March 9, 2004; a grandson, Jeffery Lee Claycamp on March 4, 1969; her brothers, Clifton and John Holland; and a sister, Dolly Hidy Ayers.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Claycamp of Seneca and Joyce Bacon of Topeka; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service for Grace will be held at 10 AM Monday, July 16, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery. There will be a visitation on from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given for the Woodlawn Baptist Church, and sent in care of the family.
