Margaret “Peggy” Osterhaus, 62, of Seneca, KS, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at her home.

She was born on August 27, 1945 in Seneca, the daughter of Suitbert and Elizabeth Hutfles Stallbaumer. She lived on the family farm south of Corning for 10 years, before the family moved into Corning. Peggy attended the Corning School and graduated in 1963.

Peggy married Elmer J. Osterhaus on September 4, 1965 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning.

The couple lived in Kansas City for a year and then moved to Seneca. Shortly after coming to Seneca, they moved to Oneida for a few years before coming back to Seneca.

Peggy was a devoted mother who raised two talented children. Once her children were grown, she went to work as a cook for the Seneca Grade School for four years. In 1996, she started working at Little Britches Daycare Center. In 2000, Peggy was hired by Harsh Drug Store in Seneca. When the drug store sold to Pamida, she continued her employment until her death.

Peggy enjoyed traveling, especially visiting her son in Alaska. In her free time, she took pleasure in fishing, quilting, and being outdoors. She was a dedicated grandmother who treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Peggy was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church in Seneca.

Survivors besides her husband Elmer are her son Michael Osterhaus of Wasilla, AK; her daughter Patricia White of Grain Valley, MO; five brothers, Ervan Stallbaumer of Tulsa, OK, John Stallbaumer of Hoyt, Lester Stallbaumer of Holton, James Stallbaumer of Cincinnati, OH, and Michael Stallbaumer of Paola, KS; and four sisters, Mary Ann Grollmes of Netawaka, KS, Lucille Eisenbarth and Barbara Osterhaus, both of Seneca, and Janice Jenkins of Paola, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 A.M. Wednesday, October 10, at Sts. Peter & Paul in Seneca. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed on Tuesday at 2 & 7 PM at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School.
