Naomi D. Turner, 81, of Seneca, KS, died early Saturday morning, February 23, 2008 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, where she had been a resident since last November.
She was born December 9, 1926, in Hiawatha, KS, the daughter of Clifford C. and Edna S. Robinson Turner. She grew up there and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1944. Naomi was employed by Hazlett Restaurants and A.B. Keith Insurance Company before becoming secretary of the Hiawatha Chamber of Commerce. In 1950 she began employment with the Kansas Power & Light Company in Seneca where she worked until her retirement in 1986.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Seneca, and served on the church council and as a Eucharistic minister bringing communion to disabled people and hospitals. She was also a leading proactive member of the Nemaha County Historical Society, and served on the board a number of years. She drove the special services bus, served a five-year term on the Seneca City Planning Commission, and was secretary of the Seneca Women’s Bowling Association for 16 years. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed golf. Along with her bowling buddies, Jenny, M.A., Wilma, and Helen, she traveled the country, attending national bowling tournaments.
Survivors include a brother, Rollyn O. Turner of Albany, OR; nephews, nieces, and her friend, Cecilia Niekamp of Seneca, with whom she made her home for many years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Dana, Clifford, and Chester Turner; and four sisters, Helen Ham, Frances Turner, Lois Mauselin, and Leveta Salmon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Tuesday, February 26, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM Monday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
