Dorothy L. Buttner, 94, of Seneca, KS, died Friday morning, May 9, 2008 at Meadowlark Hills retirement home in Manhattan.
Dorothy was born October 19, 1913 in Axtell, KS to Henry F. and Mary Tamsy Boydston. She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in the St. Bridget-Axtell community. Dorothy helped her mother care for her younger siblings until the age of 18. On May 19, 1932, she married Adolph F. Buttner in Marysville, KS. Dorothy was a mother and a homemaker, raising eight young children after losing her husband of only 10 years.
Dorothy always had a large vegetable garden, and enjoyed doing embroidery work and sewing. She loved to cook and her family will miss her special chocolate cookies.
She is survived by four daughters, Velma McClintock of Pawnee City, NE, Ruby Menhusen of Grand Island, NE, Rosemary Monaghan of Hiawatha, and Marcia Buttner of Manhattan; two sons, Carl and Edwin of Seneca; two sisters, Delphia Hinton of Hiawatha and Ruby Watkins of Sabetha; 23 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two children, Frank and Edith, and siblings Henry, Estell, Viola, Sarah, Tamsy, Juanita, and Grace.
Family will meet friends from 1 to 2 PM on Monday, May 12, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca; a graveside service will follow at 2 PM at the Seneca City Cemetery.
