Victor E. Olberding

Victor E. Olberding, 83, of Seneca, KS, died early Thursday evening, August 28, 2008 at Life Care Center in Seneca, where he had been a resident since October 2003.
Victor was born on September 2, 1924 in Baileyville, KS, the son of August C. and Catherine Ronnebaum Olberding. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul School in Seneca. He worked on the family farm before taking employment with the Winterschidt Elevator in Seneca. On October 1, 1952 he started working for the city of Seneca as the Street and Water Commissioner. In May of 1979 he was appointed as the new City Superintendent and he retired in May of 1989.
On November 17, 1947 he married Margaret A. “Peggy” Haug at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
Victor was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He enjoyed time with his family, grandchildren, fishing, woodworking, and watching sports on television.
Besides Peggy, his wife of 60 years, he is survived by two sons, Keith of Seneca and Darrell of Overland Park; a sister, Eileen Olberding Ricker of Seneca; a brother, August Olberding, Jr. of Baileyville, KS; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Cronin on September 25, 1990; sisters, Laurine Olberding and Dorothy Lucille Allen; and six brothers, Raymond, Allie, George, Emmett, Orvin and Vincent Olberding.
A rosary will be prayed at 4 PM Sunday, August 31, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 12 PM Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given for Life Care Center of Seneca or Sts. Peter & Paul Church, and sent in care of the family.
