Darrell D. Byrd

Darrell D. Byrd, 75, of Seneca, KS, died late Saturday night, November 15, 2008, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born on April 28, 1933 in Hutchison, KS, the son of Earl Sylvester and Anna Mae Humiston Byrd. He graduated from Hutchison High School in 1952, and was a former member of the First Presbytery Church in Hutchison.
On July 20, 1954 he married Ruby Mae Womack. They were married for 54 years.
Darrell worked for J.C. Penny’s for 21 years in various locations. He sold real estate for 5 years in Albuquerque, NM. He later worked for Shell Oil in Austin, TX where he lived for 21 years. He moved to Seneca in 2004, residing at the Peppertree Apartments. He was a member of the Lions Club. Darrell enjoyed painting ceramics, but his true love was playing on his computer.
He is survived by his wife Ruby of the home; his son, Russell Byrd and wife Gail of Lincoln, NE; a sister, Phyllis Long of Cassville, MO; and four granddaughters, Kelsey, Karli and Shannon Byrd, and Lori Miller, all of Lincoln, NE.
The funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, November 18, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Darrell’s memory for the Helping Hands Humane Society at 2625 NW Rochester Rd, Topeka, KS.
