Henry F. Wietharn, 77, of rural Seneca, Kansas, died Monday, March 10, 1958, at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital, from an acute heart attack. He had been ill about a week, had an appendectomy, and was believed to be improving until suffering a heart attack.

He was born in Oldenburg, Germany, on January 4, 1881, the son of Henry and Agnes Wietharn. His family came to Nemaha County, Kansas and settled near Baileyville when Henry was two years old. Henry then lived in Nemaha County as a successful farmer until the end of his life. He was known as a quiet and pleasant man, upright in his dealings. His special interests were home and family.

He married Mary W. Tangeman on February 16, 1909, at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict, Kansas. They lived at their present farm home a mile west of Seneca ever since their marriage. Henry retired from farming about two years ago.

Survivors are his wife Mary of the home; four children, Ethel and husband John I. Rottinghaus of Seneca, Vincent and wife Rita Wietharn of Everest, Rose and husband Lawrence Kramer of Baileyville, and Leona and husband Alvin Lueger of Seneca.

He was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter; three brothers, Frank, John and Bernard Wietharn; and a sister, Theresia Pille.

Henry was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph Society at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered at 10:30 AM Friday, March 14, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The celebrant and deacon for the Mass were Fr. Albert Wietharn and Fr. Sylvester Wietharn, nephews of Henry. Fr. Cyprian Nordhus, a cousin of Henry, was subdeacon, and Fr. Jude Burbach also participated. Servers were Henry’s grandsons, John Rottinghaus, Emmett Kramer, and Gerald and Jimmy Wietharn.

Burial was in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry’s nephews Edwin Wietharn, Francis Wietharn, Leo Tangeman, Ollie Tangeman, Emmett Tangeman and Albert Olberding.
