Meletta M. "Peggy" Marconett

Frisco, TX

Meletta Mary “Peggy” Stanley Marconett, 96, of Frisco, TX, formerly of Baileyville, KS, died on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Victoria Gardens in Frisco.

She was born on December 9, 1914, in Frankfort, KS, the daughter of Bernard and Anna Schaffer Runnebaum. Her father operated a sale barn there and also farmed near Lillis. When she was eight years old, the family moved to a farm north of Axtell, KS. Peggy attended St. Michael’s Grade School in Axtell. She boarded in nearby Seneca while attending Seneca Public High School where she graduated. In 1934, she moved to Kansas City, MO, where she did secretarial work.

On November 16, 1942, she married Richard Stanley in Oakland, CA. Richard was in the U.S. Army. They were stationed in Oakland, Germany, Washington DC, and Fairbanks, AK. She worked at the PX on Army bases in the purchasing division. They had two daughters, Meletta and Mary. Her husband Richard preceded her in death on July 29, 1966.

Peggy lived in Baileyville, where her mother lived, until 1971, then moved to Topeka. She worked in Topeka at the Stormont-Vail Hospital nursery as a nursing assistant.

On April 23, 1978, she married Clifford Marconett at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. They lived in Topeka. Peggy retired in 1981, and then began spending winters with her husband in Alamo, TX. They eventually sold their home in Topeka and made Alamo their permanent home. Clifford preceded her in death on November 2, 1991.

Peggy was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Alamo, TX. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, KS and Holy Name Church in Topeka.

She is survived by her two daughters, Meletta Street of Frisco, TX and Mary Womack of Royse City, TX; a brother, Galen Runnebaum of Axtell; a sister, Shirley Deters of Topeka; three grandchildren, Robert Street, Sherri Street and Danielle Womack; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Street, Jr. and Emma Marie Meis.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Vincent, and Bernard Runnebaum; and two sisters, Evelyn Lackey and Edna Jensen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 13, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. A rosary will be prayed at 10 AM at the church prior to the mass. She will be buried next to her mother at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Axtell.
