Rita M. Broxterman

Rita M. Broxterman, 91, of Seneca, Kansas, died early Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011, at Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was born August 3, 1919 on a farm southwest of St. Benedict, Kansas to George and Elizabeth Engelken Stallbaumer. She attended St. Benedict School in St. Benedict, graduating in May 1933. After school she helped on the family farm and later moved to Kansas City to work for St. Margaret’s Hospital.
On February 18, 1941, she married Frank J. Broxterman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict; he preceded her in death on January 2, 2005.
They farmed northeast of Baileyville, raising cattle and hogs, along with operating a dairy. They moved to Seneca in April 1986. Rita and Frank celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February 1991; they were married for 63 years.
Rita was employed at Unified School District #451 for 27 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society in Seneca. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society in Baileyville.
Rita enjoyed many hobbies, including baking, flowers, gardening, playing cards, embroidery, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Besides her husband Frank, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Raymond, Alfred, Cyril, Hubert, Adrian, Cletus and Emmett Stallbaumer; three sisters, Cora Hammes, Minnie Haug and Leona Nolte; and a grandson, Jeffery Broxterman on November 22, 2003.
Survivors are four sons, Steven Broxterman of Kansas City, Kansas, Roger (Jan) Broxterman of Lago Vista, Texas, Gary (Donna) Broxterman of Harleysville, PA and David (Yvette Dawes) Broxterman of Bates City, Missouri; a daughter, Sandra (John) Feldkamp of Manhattan, Kansas; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Thursday, January 6, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Friday, January 7, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund, and sent in care of the family.
