Leroy F. Enneking

Seneca, KS

12/04/1939 - 10/01/2010

Leroy F. Enneking, 70, of Seneca, KS, lost his 8-month battle against liposarcoma cancer late Friday evening, October 1, 2010, at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Leroy was born on December 4, 1939, in St. Benedict, KS to Louis and Elizabeth B. Molhman Enneking, Sr. He grew up in the St. Benedict area and attended St. Mary’s School. After school he helped his dad on the family farm and also worked at other area farms.

On November 19, 1960, he married Joyce E. Brokamp at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2010.

After marriage he went to work for the Nemaha County Road and Bridge for a short time. He then worked for the city of Seneca for 25 years, and was employed by Koch & Company in Seneca until 2008.

He enjoyed lawn maintenance, mowing and spraying lawns all over town. He was one of the first to always donate blood at the local blood drive. He and his family raised dogs. He also enjoyed raising a small herd of cattle at his home on the edge of town. Leroy was a person who just had to be outside whether he was working or just being outside.

He was a parishoner of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca, where he was an usher for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1769 in Seneca and the American Kennel Club.

He is survived by his three sons, Doug (and wife Cathy), Dan and Duane Enneking, all of Seneca; three grandchildren, Cody, Austin and Abby Enneking; three brothers, Louis Enneking, Jr. of Seneca, Linus Enneking and Lynn Enneking, both of Topeka; and two sisters, Darlene Lechner and Marilyn Kahler, both of Topeka.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Betty Ward on August 3, 1993.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Monday, October 4, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 2 PM Sunday, October 3, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Memorial contributions may be given in Leroy’s memory to Sts. Peter & Paul Nature Center or Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
