Daniel William Olenhouse, 51, of Seneca, KS, lost his battle against cancer early Monday morning, July 26, 2010 at his home.
Daniel was born on January 29, 1959 in Topeka to Don and Doris Sherbenou Olenhouse. He attended school in Lafontaine, KS and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1977. He received his degree from Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS in 1981. After graduating, he went to work for Federal Crop Insurance as an auditor.
On April 16, 1983 he married Vicky S. Hallacy at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, KS. The couple moved to Seneca in 1985, where Daniel opened Southwind Crop Insurance Company. While owning and operating a business in Seneca for the past 25 years, Daniel became actively involved in the community. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a Little League Baseball Coach, Chair of the Seneca Soccer Association, and a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he taught CCD classes. He was also involved with the Downtown Impact Committee.
He enjoyed collecting coins and sports cards. He loved being outdoors where he could fish, camp, hunt, and garden. He was a sports fanatic, who was also a husky dog lover, and a history buff.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Vicky; their son Michael of Seneca; and a sister, Dana Jenkerson of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Thursday, July 29, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Wednesday, July 28, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
