Lorene C. Olberding

Baileyville, Kansas

Lorene Olberding, 87, of Baileyville, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Life Care Center of Seneca.

Lorene was born at a farm south of Seneca on December 26, 1930, to Lawrence and Anna Weber Koelzer. She grew up in the Corning community and attended a country school, graduating from the 8th grade.

On September 13, 1956, she married Alvin R. Olberding at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. The couple lived north of Baileyville for three years, and then in 1959, they moved into Baileyville.

Lorene stayed active, volunteering at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church cleaning and at the Catholic Region Center when it was located in Baileyville. She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with family and friends. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the St. Ann’s Altar Society in Baileyville.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin on December 11, 2002; her daughter, Alice Payne on April 1, 2013; her parents, Lawrence and Anna; brothers, Sylvester Koelzer on June 15, 2012, George Koelzer on January 14,1930, Melvin Koelzer on January 1, 2001 and Andrew Koelzer on May 29, 1942; and sisters, Rita Eisenbarth on November 23, 2016, Clara Niehues on February 21, 1993, Dorothy Koelzer on December 15, 1948 and Margaret Koelzer on January 11, 1944.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Haverkamp of Seneca and Ann Broxterman of Silver Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 22nd at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be at 10 A.M. prior to Mass, at the church.

Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart Church, sent in care of the family.
