Daniel L. Stallbaumer

Daniel Louis Stallbaumer (Danny), 70, passed away on September 19, 2018 while in hospice care at Tanglewood Health and Rehabilitation in Topeka.
Danny was born October 26, 1947 in Axtell, Kansas to Hubert and Helen (Reinecke) Stallbaumer. He grew up in the area of Baileyville and Seneca, Kansas and attended Baileyville Elementary School, and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.
Danny moved with his parents to Atchison, Kansas in 1964. He worked for Benedictine College and Arensberg’s IGA for well over 20 years. Later he came under the care of Atchison Achievement Services, where he worked for a number of years.
In early 2017 Danny suffered a life changing fall and his health took a turn for the worse. In spite of many visits to various hospitals and rehab facilities he never fully recovered.
Danny was well known in Atchison, having expertly bagged groceries for many who lived there. He was friendly, and conscientious about never squashing a customer’s bread, or packing a bag too full. Although his life was simple, his goal was perfection.
Danny struggled with most subjects in school, but his unusual phonetic ability enabled him to correctly spell any word. No word was too difficult.
Danny was a big fan of the Benedictine College Ravens, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Danny is survived by his mother, Helen Stallbaumer of Seneca, Kansas. He is also survived by his brother Larry of Topeka, and his sister Debbie Barrett of Evergreen Co. His father Hubert and his brother Richard preceded him in death.
Danny struggled all of his life as a special needs person. To those who showed him respect, patience and care, may God bless you. Special blessings to Atchison Achievement Services and Interim Hospice of Topeka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Benedictine Sisters of Mt. St. Scholastica in Atchison, Ks.

Maurice remembers Daniel from grade school. He is so touched by the note about Daniel’s spelling ability. Not a good area for Maurice! God blesses each with something to make one happy and be accepted. We have known Helen for years at Life Care. She must be so very proud of her family. Blessings to all and may Jesus gift you all with His love and peace!

Danny was a friend for about 15 years. He’d stop by the bank a couple of days per week @ 6th & Commercial on his return to Mall Towers from Achievement Services. His visit was brief if the Hospital Aux & Sacred Heart Thrift Stores were open because he’d be itching to purchase an old favorite VHS movie; a Chiefs, Ravens or KU cap or sweatshirt. He liked his little trinkets and his tractor collection. Some days he wanted to vent about his day at work or tell me a funny story. He had a great laugh I can hear till this day : ) He didn’t leave without a hug. He had some comical lines he enjoyed sharing, like “wish I had all your money, I could retire”; “you live in a mansion of gold”; “if I was rich, I’d buy a plane and fly us around the world”. When Danny fell on the ice that slippery day Jan of ’17 on his way back from retrieving a donut and coffee, I lost someone dear. He had a heart of gold, was smart and rich in many ways. I worked with Danny at Arensbergs on the mall . Danny was suck a kind human being with a great sense of humor , and yes he always said teased everybody and said he wished he had their money .He never walked by without saying something to you . RIP Danny you were such a kind soul .It was a pleasure to know you .
So sorry for your loss. Danny was part of our daily lives while working at Domann Drug Store. He was a regular customer, and we looked forward to seeing him daily. He always had a kind word to share, simple and to the point. There are so many things to share, but always loved seeing Danny in his Chiefs jersey. Go Chiefs!! Danny you know what? I like you a lot. Thanks for the memories.
Danny was by little brother and I miss him so much. he was 5 years younger then me so he was my little brother.
We had fun together and we took good care of each other.
