Mildren P. Mathewson

Seneca, Kansas

Mildred P. Mathewson, 89, of Seneca, died on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

Mildred was born May 30, 1929, on a farm south of Seneca, to Clem and Agatha Huerter Heinen. She attended St. Bede’s School and graduated in 1947.

On September 26, 1953 Mildred married Gerald Mathewson at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly.

As a young woman, she was employed at Strathman’s Store in Seneca. After a few years, she attended and graduated from Clark’s Business School in Topeka. She was employed at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 36 years, before retiring. In 1998, after Gerald’s and her retirement the couple returned to to Seneca.

Mildred was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and the St. Ann’s Altar Sodality, all in Seneca; and a former member of Most Pure Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. Mildred loved to cook, crochet, play cards and enjoyed working puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Alice in October 27, 1935 and Jeanette Heinen on November 20, 2012.

Mildred is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gerald; her brother, Norbert (Jane) Heinen of Seneca; sisters, Helen (Elmer) Sack of Seneca, Arlene (Joe) Gudenkauf of Seneca and Dorothy (Bill) Eaton of Maple Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Seneca.

Memorials are for Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, sent in care of the family.

    I am so sorry to hear of this, she was a classmate of my mom Annie Kramer and roommate, at Lifecare. Mom enjoyed her time with her.
