Emily Jean Lackey, 94, of Seneca, Kansas passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Life Care Center surrounded by her family.
Jean was born the only child to Lawrence and Edna (Roush) Lynn on September 27, 1925, in the west Powhattan Community near Wetmore, Kansas.
She attended West Powhattan Country School for eight years and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1943. After graduation, Jean moved to Topeka, Kansas and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for five years in the Revenue Accounting Department.
On April 17, 1948 she married Melvin Lackey. They resided in the Sabetha area where they farmed for several years, before moving to Seneca. After a few years they established the Seneca Ready Mix Company.
Jean was a homemaker who loved and cared for their four children. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the St. Annβs Altar Society. Her hobbies included ceramics, bowling, golfing, playing cards and coffee time with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Randy at the age of 6 years; her parents, Lawrence in 1980 and Edna in 1984; and her former husband, Melvin in 1998.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Tom) Haverkamp of Seneca, Pam (Randy) Lang of Seneca and Penny (Wayne) Stallbaumer of Wakarusa, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Memorials for Jean may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School, sent in care of the family.
A rosary will be prayed on Friday, January 31st at 2PM at Lauer Funeral Home.Β
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 1st at 10AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
