Rose J. Heiman

Rose Rottinghaus Heiman, 86, of Axtell, KS passed away Saturday evening, August 29, 2020, at Marysville Community Hospital in Marysville, KS.

Rose was born on February 28, 1934 on a farm north of Corning, KS, the daughter of Henry & Magdalen Steinlage Rottinghaus. Rose was one of ten children. At the age of 10 her mother died of a brain tumor, diagnosed after an autopsy. Rose went to school at St. Bede’s Grade School and graduated from the 8th grade. After she graduated from the 8th grade, she helped on the family farm, until she married Jerald Heiman on August 4, 1956 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Rose gave birth to four children, Brad, Denise, Greg, and Bruce. After her children graduated Rose obtained her GED, so she was a high school graduate. She also farmed along side of her husband north of Axtell for 45 years before moving into Axtell.

Rose had several interests in her life, playing bridge, sewing comforts, and painting.Rose was a member of St. Michaels’ Catholic Church in Axtell. She was a member of the St. Michael’s Guild serving as an officer; she also cared for the altar linens for 29 years before retiring. She will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by husband Jerald of the home; and children, Denise Heiman of Axtell, Brad (Kass) Heiman of Axtell, Greg (Judy) Heiman of McPherson and Bruce (Kim) Heiman of Summerfield; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandsons. In addition to her brothers, Marcellus Rottinghaus of Overland Park, KS and Ray Rottinghaus of Seneca; her sisters, Helen Lierz of Savanna, MO, Mary Sieben of Prairie Village, KS, and Dorothy Hammes of Seneca; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1993, her mother in 1944; her brothers, Ed in 1990; Bernard in 2008 and Clarence in 2016; and a sister, Rita Gockel in 2015.

Rosaries will be prayed on Tuesday, September 1st at 2 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca and at 7 P.M. at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell. Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Church Cemetery at a later date.

SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASK REQUESTED.

Memorials may be left in Rose’s memory for the St. Michael’ s Cemetery, St. Michael’s Church and/or Mount Saint Scholastic in Atchison, sent in care of the family.

Rosaries will be prayed on Tuesday, September 1st at 2 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca and 7 P.M. at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell.

SOCIAL DISTANCING AND MASK REQUESTED.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell. Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Church Cemetery at a later date.

    Jerry, Denise, Brad, Greg and Bruce, our deepest condolences thoughts and prayers are with all of your families during this time. We wish we could be there for you as you were for us last year.     So very sorry to get this news. I wish I had been able to visit over the past few months. Rose was truly one of a kind. She will be greatly missed.

    Jerry, Brad, Denise, Greg, Bruce and the entire Heiman family; I was so saddened to hear of Rose’s passing. She was a wonderful person who was so kind to my family, particularly my mother Jackie. Rose brought all she had to every situation. She was passionate in all the right ways and a role model for living a spiritual life. Her dedication to her family was evident. she will be greatly missed. I will miss her. Our condolences to the Heiman family. May God bless you during this difficult time.

    To all the Heiman family our Deepest Sympathy goes out to you. Have fond memories of getting together with your family when you lived north of us in the “Good Old Days”!! They all come to a end and it won’t be long and we’ll be called home as well.

    Sorry to hear about the passing of Rose! I know she was such a great friend to my grandmother, Jackie and my father spoke fondly of her many many times. Condolences to all who knew and loved her!

    Oh our Rosie, how we will miss her. We met her through Jerry’s Army reunions, all of which they attended, and spent even more good times in between. We’ll miss her laugh and dimpled smile. We send regards to all her family and wish for them a quiet peace and warm memories.
