Linus Raymond Olberding
Seneca, Kansas

Linus R. Olberding, 64, of Seneca, KS, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 4, 2020.
He was born May 4, 1956 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, the only son of Raymond F. and Mary Margaret Koch Olberding. His mother died on July 15, 1957. Linus graduated from Nemaha Valley High School with the Class of 1974. He was a farmer and a stockman on the family farm his entire life; spending many years farming with his father and more recently with his two sons. He cared for his aging father for many years; who died on October 5, 2010.
On October 9, 1982 he married Marie Ellen Sperfslage at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; the couple celebrated 37 years of marriage.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca and the St. Joseph’s Society at the church. He served for over a decade on the Sts. Peter & Paul School Board; helping in building the new school. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1769; serving on the Dance Committee for over 25 years.
He truly enjoyed farming, playing cards, and spending time with his children. He was a big supporter of the local community and always willing to help out anyone in need.
Linus is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; his four children, Jason Olberding, David Olberding, Lisa Olberding and Michelle Olberding all of Seneca; and his sister, Nancy Niehues of Goff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 8th at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Monday, September 7, 2020 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given in Linus’s memory to Sts. Peter & Paul School, sent in care of the family.

Linus was a great class mate .We joked around alot.He was a great neighbor to my dad.It sadden me to hear of his passing my thought and prayers are with his family
I remember when Linus’ mother died and the family moved in with his grandparents (my aunt Lizzie). My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time of sudden loss. May many happy memories grant you consolation and peace in the days ahead.
Marie I am very sorry for your lost. I never met Linus but I remember you from school and I am sure he was blessed to have you in his life. My deepest condolences to you and your children.
