Linus Joseph Haverkamp

Wetmore, Kansas

11/23/1933 - 09/27/2020

Linus Joseph Haverkamp, 86, of Wetmore, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2020, at the Sabetha Community Hospital, with his loving wife and family by his side.

He was born on November 23, 1933, north of Seneca, Kansas, the son of Aloysius and Eleanor (Enneking) Haverkamp.

Linus graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in 1951. He joined the United States Army National Guard and proudly served his country.

For 55 years, he was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, serving on the church committee, as was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He loved being surrounded by his grandchildren.

Linus knew no strangers and was ready for a conversation wherever he went. He loved a good joke and always had one to tell.

Linus grew up on a farm north of Seneca. He was involved in 4-H and enjoyed showing cattle at the American Royal.

Linus married the love of his life, Anita (Sudbeck), on April 18, 1960, at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict, Kansas. They lived south of Corning on the parallel for five years before moving to their present home north of Wetmore. He was an avid farmer and dairyman. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Linus is survived by his loving wife, Anita Haverkamp, daughter Connie Marzen (Mike) of Overland Park, KS, son Kevin Haverkamp (Ellie) of Wetmore, daughter Lori Perkins (Mike) of Sacramento, CA, and daughter Donna Haverkamp (Gary) of Netawaka; six grandchildren, Brianna and Garrett Maltby, Jay Haverkamp, Corinne Meyer (Cameron), Gerae, and Kean Haverkamp; brothers, Al Haverkamp and Remi Haverkamp (Cleta Mae); sisters, Mary Ann Haug (Galen) and Grace Junk (Sam); and sister-in-law, Maxine Haverkamp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Aloysius and Eleanor (Enneking) Haverkamp, and his brother, Norbert Haverkamp.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 1,2020, at 10:30 A.M., St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial will follow in the Wetmore cemetery. Rosaries will be recited on Wednesday at 2 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca and 7 P.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore.

Memorials may be given to the St. James Catholic Church c/o Lauer Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 1,2020, at 10:30 A.M., St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial will follow in the Wetmore cemetery.

    I will miss Linus. Sorry for your loss. I still remember staying with you when I was young and helping milk and tend calves. Plus, there was a motorcycle involved that somehow was made to run “better”.
