Marvin William Mathewson

Marvin William Mathewson, 88, formerly of Baileyville, died on December 24, 2020 at Brookdale College Square in Overland Park, Kansas
Marvin was born September 25, 1932, on a farm southeast of Baileyville, the son of Albert and Hilda Osterhaus Mathewson.
Marvin grew up south of Baileyville and attended Sacred Heart grade school. Marvin helped his father on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in December 15,1953, he was stationed in Germany for 2 years and was discharged on November 29, 1955.
He purchased the family farm in 1971. Besides farming and raising livestock, he also worked as a county road grader in the 70’s and 80’s. He enjoyed repairing and selling bicycles, carpentry and raising sweet corn that he sold to the community.
On September 2, 1972, he married Mary Susan Burgoon at St. Thomas More Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Mathewson and two sisters, Dorothy Schmitz and Irene Schmitz.
Marvin is survived by his wife Mary Susan Mathewson of Topeka, Kansas, two sons, Jason (Ann) Mathewson of Scranton, Kansas and Mark (Lisa) Mathewson of Kansas City, Missouri, a sister Ileta Klecan of Hanover; and 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren
As per Marvin wishes he was cremated and service will be later,
Memorial donations may be left in his memory to the local Meals on Wheels and/or Sacred Heart church
as per Marvin’s wishes he has been cremated.
SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REQUIRED
A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville prior to the Mass at 11:00 A.M. Monday January 4, 2021. Burial will be at Sacred Heart’s Cemetery in Baileyville.
Memorial donations may be left in his memory to the local Meals on Wheels and/or Sacred Heart church
as per Marvin’s wishes he has been cremated.
