Joseph G. Hulsing

Seneca, Kansas

Joseph G. “Joe” Hulsing, 83, of Seneca, Kansas passed away peacefully at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Joseph was born on January 4, 1939, on a farm west of St. Benedict, Kansas, to Henry G. and Ida Gellhaus Hulsing.

Joe, grew up in the St. Benedict area and attended St. Mary’s Grade School, graduating from the 8th grade. His father died at an early age, requiring Joe to help on the family farm as well as work as a hired hand for neighboring farmers. Joe eventually got a job in Eldorado, Kansas doing construction work before moving Wichita where he continued to do concrete work. His brother, Victor told him that there was plenty of work in Omaha, so he moved north and was employed by Kiewit Construction Company in Omaha, retiring 2004. After he retired, he continued to do cement work on own before moving to Seneca in 2005.

On December 4, 1976 Joe married Joleen Kuhn at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly, Kansas. The couple celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Joe was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.

Joe was preceded in death by eight siblings, Celestine “Sally” Hulsing, Elsa McGuire, Mary C. Stallbaumer, Florence Kohake, Emil Hulsing, Henry Hulsing, Mildred Kohake and Henrietta Holthaus.

Joe is survived by his wife, Joleen; two sons, Timothy Hulsing of Terre Bonne, Oregon and Thomas (Jennifer) Hulsing of Eugene, Oregon; two brothers, Victor and Bernard, both of Seneca; two sisters, Marceline Meyer of Axtell and Ida Rose Sextro of Kelly; and four grandchildren, Kylan, Jesse, Mikala and Micah.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Calvary Cemetery 7710 West Center Road, Omaha, Nebraska, 68124.
