Rick and other family members. Sorry for your loss. I knew your dad thru my dad, Lyle Weyer as a customer and back to The 00 Jalopy days as a co owner with my dad and Shorty Burkholder. They won everything with Shorty driving. I wanted to include a picture of Smitty sitting on the fender of the #00 jalopy but couldn’t figure out how.

    Rick, Mark and Families,

Your dad was such a good person and so enjoyable to be around. I remember so many good times at your house when we were growing up. I know you will miss your dad. Hold on to your memories. If we hear some racing going on here in the near future we will know Smitty has arrived to mechanic the race car, Shorty is there to race the car and my dad is there cheering them on to win (so long ago but so many memories).

Take care and I will keep you all in my prayers.

    Connie and Jim Holthaus

Rick, Mark, and other family members, our condolences. Uncle Smitty lived a long and productive life. He was the cool uncle. He had a sense of humor, told great stories, and even had a tattoo. Smitty and all his brothers were what Tom Brokaw called America’s greatest generation. Thoughts and prayers are being sent to his entire family.

We were so saddened to hear the news of the passing of your father. When Don talked of past times and hijinks, Smitty’s name was often involved. One of Ardis’s best friend’s was Iris and the whole “coffee club”. After Ardis died Iris started sending me Christmas cards and letters. Your dad continued the correspondence. We enjoyed hearing about the happenings around Goff. In recent years he was sounding tired yet grateful to still be in his home with family nearby. IT IS a passing of the “greatest generation” that we are privileged to know but one we cannot reproduce. May you forevermore Rest In Peace, Smitty….
