Leo G. Becker

Leo G. Becker, 88, of Seneca, died on December 7, 2022, at the University of Kansas Heath System-St. Francis Campus in Topeka.
Leo was born on November 27, 1934, in Seneca, to Louis Patrick and Leona Waller Becker. He grew up in the Seneca community and attended Sts. Peter and Paul School; and graduated from the 8th grade and a freshman in High School. As a young boy he had a paper route for several years. His father died young and Leo stayed home to help the family during that difficult time.
On July 2, 1955, Leo married Darlene Elaine McClain at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
Leo worked in Topeka from 1955 to 1961 doing auto repair he worked for Yarrington Oldsmobile and Blane as a painter. The couple then moved to Sabetha for a short time. In 1962, he bought Ray Sanders Body Shop in 1962 and Darlene and Leo moved to Seneca and opened up the Becker Body Shop, which he owned and operated the successful business until he retired in 2019.
Leo had several interests outside of auto body work; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, junking, car shows, camping and attending the race track at Beatrice.
Leo was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Society in Seneca.
Leo was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Becker on August 23, 2019; his parents; and siblings, Dorothy White, Ivan Becker, Felica Kass, Elwin Becker, Emmett Becker, Patricia Zirger, Lawrence Becker and Karen Becker.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Darlene; a daughter, Kathy (Blaine) Smith of Beatie; a son, Karl Becker of Nipomo, California; two grandsons, Bradley (Serena) Huerter and Timothy (Avery) Huerter both of Seneca; and great-grandchildren, Garrett, Ella, Piper, Tatum and Evren.
Leo will lie in state on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. A rosary will be prayed on Monday, December 12th at 10:30 A.M., prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Memorial will be designed at a later date, sent in care of the family.
