Robert "Quentin" Engelken
Seneca, Kansas

Robert “Quentin” Engelken, 90, of Seneca, Kansas died on Saturday, November 24, 2018; he had been ill since March 2018.
Quentin was born on a farm southwest of St. Benedict on July 1, 1928 to Albert and Helen (Fangman) Engelken. He attended school in St. Benedict and graduated from St. Benedict High School in 1945.
He married Arlene Mueting on July 21, 1953. Quentin worked for the CO-OP, drove he school bus for Kelly School and for the Nemaha Valley Schools. In 1950, Quentin sustained an injury in a farm accident resulting in damage to his right hand. That injury never stopped him. In March 1955, he and Arlene moved and bought a farm; where they have lived and farmed since.
Quentin was an avid reader and visited the library every couple of days; he especially loved Louis Lamour books. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John on January 5, 1978; by a sister, Irene Lawrence; and by a brother, Stephen Engelken.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arlene of the home; three daughters, Susan (Mike) Corcran of Topeka, Diane Engelken of Topeka and Jean (Duane) Dressman of Vliets; three grandchildren, Nathan Dressman of Wamego, Derek Dressman of Vliets and Emily Deters of Baileyville; three great-grandchildren, Lola, Duke and Kip; brothers, Rene Engelken of Prairie Village, Kansas, Virgil Engelken of Seneca, Linus Engelken of Bucyrus, Kansas, Thomas Engelken of Topeka; and sisters, Georgina Glissman of Seneca, Constance Hermesch of Seneca, Rita Kastens of Topeka, Lois Kuckelman of Axtell and Joan Engelken of Topeka.
Memorials may be left in Quentin’s memory to the STEP Foundation.
A Rosary will be prayed at 2PM on Tuesday, November 26th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2018 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

I am deeply sorry for the passing of Quentin! Enjoyed the time we would banter back and forth at the Centralia Library, and at McDonalds! He will be missed by all who knew him.

Our parents would go to Topeka to visit Edward and Irene in the hospital. Rita and I were preschoolers, so we stayed at Engelkens and Quentin took care of us. He was so good and kind. Always remembered that kindness. That was late 1940 ‘s.
