Adrian Clyde Ewing

Adrian Clyde Ewing, 85, of Goff, Kansas, died April 26, 2012 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

He was born on January 23, 1927 in Wetmore to Orin C. and Edith T. Freeman Ewing. He grew up there and attended Wetmore schools and graduated from the 8th grade, then went to Goff High School for a year.

As a young man, Clyde, as he was known, worked for Ray T. Ingalls in the Goff area doing farm work and for Dale Rowland cutting walnut timbers.

Clyde joined the U.S. Army on October 31, 1945 and was discharged on February 13, 1947 with the rank of T/5. Afterwards he returned to Goff, then worked for a time in Fresno, California, then returned to Kansas to get married.

On December 21, 1949 he married Marie A. Gustafson in Holton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1993.

Clyde worked for several farmers in the Holton area before moving to Randall, Kansas to work for Max and Iva Berger on their farm. In 1955 he and his wife moved to Clovis, California where Clyde worked on a dairy and a ranch. In 1956 they moved to Raisin City, California where he worked as a foreman for Herluf Fries Ranch. In September of 1973 they moved to Goff and he worked at Pallesen Grain Company in Goff and then for B & P Gas Company in Holton driving a delivery truck. While working in Holton he also mowed the lawn at Fairview Cemetery in Goff for four years. Clyde retired in 1993.

In his retirement years Clyde delivered the Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper in the Goff area. He was a member of the Heald-Thieme Memorial Post #316 of the American Legion in Goff. He loved woodworking, fishing and reading a good book.

Besides his wife Marie, he was preceded in death by grandsons, Ashley Dean, Holden Schmitz on May 19, 1992 and Clayton Dean on January 4, 1993; two brothers, Vernon and Lawrence Ewing; and a sister, Marion Christofferson.

Survivors are his two daughters, Patti (Bill) Dean of Goff and Sharon (Greg) Schmitz of Axtell; a son, Ron Ewing of Winona, Minnesota and a step-son, Leonard Tanner of Jefferson, South Dakota; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6:30 to 8 PM Monday, April 30, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Graveside service will be held at 12 PM Tuesday, May 1, at Fairview Cemetery in Goff.

Memorials may be given in Clyde’s name for Goff Methodist Church, and sent in care of the family.
