Albert F. Olberding Sr.
ST. BENEDICT, KANSAS
10/01/1913 - 12/08/1980
Albert F. Olberding, Sr., 67, of Rt. 1, Seneca, died shortly after arrival at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital on Monday, December 8, 1980. His death was due to an apparent heart attack. He had been failing in health for the past 1 ½ years.
He was born September 8, 1913, on a farm west of St. Benedict. He was one of eight children of Frank A. and Agnes Tangeman Olberding. He grew up in the St. Benedict community and attended St. Mary’s school.
On April 25, 1939, he married Emma Runnebaum at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict. They lived and farmed the homeplace. Albert was interested in his farming. He was a dairyman and also raised cattle and hogs. Although he remained on the farm, he became somewhat inactive due to his health about 1 ½ years ago.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the St. Joseph Society, at St. Benedict, and the Knights of Columbus No. 1769 at Seneca. For several years, he served as a board member of St. Mary’s Church.
Survivors include his wife Emma of the home, a son Albert F. Olberding, Jr., a daughter-in-law Betty Olberding, 3 grandchildren, Michele, Monica & Ryan, all of the home farm at Rt. 1, Seneca; one brother, Ben J. Olberding, two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Holthaus and Mrs. Rosemary Holthaus, both of Seneca.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Teresa in 1941, 3 brothers, Ed, Lawrence and George, a sister, Sr. Annella, and a granddaughter, Mary Ann.
The rosary was prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. The mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict on Thursday, December 11, 1980 by Fr. Bartholomew Dacek. The burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were nephews, Kenneth Olberding, Clarence Olberding, Dennis Holthaus, Ryament Olberding, Gene Holthaus, Elton Olberding. Honorary pallbearers were, Clarence Engelken, Bernard Hulsing, Raymond Bergman, Wildred Bergman, Leon Holthaus, John Haverkamp.
Memorials may be given for the St. Mary’s Church, Restoration Fund, and sent in care of the family.
