Alfred A. "Al" Buser

Alfred A. “Al” Buser, 87, of Seneca, KS, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born in Sabetha, KS, on February 20, 1923 to George and Elizabeth Karnowski Buser. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca, graduating with the Class of 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from February 10, 1943 to July 11, 1945, receiving the Purple Heart Medal. After discharge, he attended the University of Idaho. He returned to Seneca and worked at the Buser Oil Company. Al entered the banking industry and worked at the First National Bank of Seneca; and continued to work after the bank changed hands and became Citizens State Bank of Seneca on May 8, 1954. He served on the Board of Directors from 1974, and retired in 1988.
Al married Gladys L. Wempe Armstrong on September 1, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Church in Emerald, KS. They lived in Seneca and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary before Gladys’s death on January 15, 1998.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Society, the Earl W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, the Nemaha County Historical Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 1769, and the Fourth Degree Ponce de Leon Assembly, all in Seneca. Al was an avid golfer, who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He traveled extensively when his wife was alive, was a history buff, enjoyed reading, collected coins and was one of the organizers of the first golf course in Seneca.
He is survived by his four sons, James Buser of Houston, TX, Jeffery Buser of Seneca, Joseph Buser of Manhattan, and Joshua Buser of Norman, OK; a daughter, Lisa Ronnebaum of Seneca; and three sisters, Sister M. Christella Buser, CSJ, of Concordia, KS, Mary Elizabeth Morrissey of Olympic, WA and Judith Lortscher of Hurst, TX; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Jon Buser on May 24, 1993; a grandson, Travis Luke Buser on May 12, 1995; and his brothers, George Jr., John, Donald, Eugene and Burton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 AM Saturday, July 3, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. The burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Friday, July 2, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be left in Al’s name for the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
