Aloysius A. "Aloy" Steinlage
Seneca, KS

Aloysius A. “Aloy” Steinlage, 84, of Seneca, KS, died Monday, December 25, 2000, at Country View Estates care home, where he had been a resident since July 24, 1996.
He was born December 12, 1916, on a farm southeast of Kelly, KS, the son of Joseph and Agnes Niehues Steinlage. He attended a country school and St. Bede’s School in Kelly. He helped on the family farm.
On December 31, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army serving in the 591st Engineers. They built bridges in the European Theatre where they were instrumental in the crossing of the Rhine River and in Africa. He was discharged on September 12, 1945, and returned to work on the family farm. He attended several reunions of the 591st over the years, and in 1979 hosted the reunion in Seneca.
Aloy married Edna Boeding on August 11, 1948, at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. They lived and farmed southeast of Corning where they had livestock, a dairy, and from 1964 to 1981, a grade-A dairy. Their son Paul began taking over teh farm in 1981. In June of 1986 Aloy and Edna retired to Seneca, though Aloy continued to help on the farm. Aloy always enjoyed raising cattle and fixing the farm machinery.
Aloy and Edna celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 11, 1998. Shortly afterwards Ednea preceded him in death on August 23, 1998.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca and a former member of St. Patrick’s Church at Corning. He served on the St. Patrick’s Church Board when they established the church cemetery in the early 1950s. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1769 in Seneca for over 50 years and the Arthur Mills Post #37 of the American Legion in Corning.
Survivors are four sons, Robert Steinlage of Ozawkie, KS, Cletus and Damian Steinlage, both of Topeka, and Paul Steinlage of Corning; three daughters, Elaine Kramer of Sabetha, Linda Roggenkamp of Onaga, and Melvina Ball of Eagle, NE; two brothers, Frank Steinlage of Seneca and Ben Steinlage of Corning; a sister, Mary Steinlage of Kelly; and 16 grandchildren.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Kevin Kramer on October 11, 1974, Anna Marie Kramer on January 21, 1977, and Mark Steinlage on April 18, 1989; and three brothers, Henry, Lambert, and Eberhard Steinlage.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for St. Patrick’s Church, Country View Estates Activity Fund, the Parkinson’s Disease Association, or the Arthur Mills Post #37 of the American Legion, and sent in care of the family.
