Anna B. Kirk

Anna B. Kirk, 104, of Seneca, KS, died late Sunday evening, January 14, 2007, at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.

She was born August 15, 1902, at Agency, MO, the daughter of Nathan and Blanche Bryne Moore. When she was a young child, she moved with her family to a farm near Oneida. She grew up there, helped on the family farm, and attended Pleasant View School.

On October 29, 1920, she married Artie Jones in Westmoreland. They had three sons. Her husband, Artie, died November 8, 1936. On February 17, 1943, she married Cleaves M. Kirk in Mayetta. Cleaves had two daughters. They lived in Portland, OR during World War II, where they were both employed in the defense industry. After the war, they returned to Seneca and then moved to Beatrice, NE in 1949. Anna worked at the Sunrise Bakery and cared for an invalid person for several years. In 1989, they retired and moved to Seneca. Cleaves and Anna were married for 53 years when he died on March 10, 1998.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Seneca and a former member of the Centenary Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle, the Keyton Club, and the Arts & Crafts Club, all in Beatrice. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed her flowers, garden, and reading. Anna and Cleaves loved to travel, and their family took them on many vacations from coast to coast. Anna was a good example to everyone with her good attitude. She often remarked how fortunate she felt she had been in life.

Survivors are two sons, Walter Lee Jones of Apple Valley, CA and Robert Paul Jones of Topeka; a step-daughter, Shirley Kirk of Goldsboro, N.C; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and six nieces and a nephew.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Jones, on May 3, 1998; a granddaughter, Linda Martin, on September 30, 1981; a step-daughter, Donna Kirk, on May 30, 1993; a brother, Virgil Moore, on December 26, 1987; and a sister, Marie Conrad, on February 24, 1978.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, with a visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.

Memorials may be given for the United Methodist Church, and sent in care of the family.
