Clara Patricia Lierz Niehues, 76, Wetmore, KS, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, following a brief illness at a Topeka hospital.
Clara was born at home south of Baileyville on August 1, 1948, to Raymond and LaVerne (Mulryan) Lierz.
She attended and graduated from Baileyville High School in May of 1966. After high school she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield until she married the love of her life. She worked alongside her husband on the farm and was a homemaker until she went to work at the Wetmore Hardware, Help the Farmers, Onaga Hospital, Medicalodges, Parallel Farms, and most recently Community Healthcare Systems of Onaga in Holton, KS. She attended and was a very active board member and secretary of the New Hope Family Church, Holton, KS.
She married Glen Niehues on April 8, 1967, at Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville, KS; they celebrated over 57 years of marriage.
Clara started each day reading her Bible and spending time in prayer. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and was amazing in the kitchen. She spent her free time crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clara is known for her BBQ sauce and enjoyed making and selling “Clara’s Sweet and Sassy BBQ Sauce”. Over the years she cherished the trips she was able to take with family and friends to Arizona, California, Hawaii, Ireland, and Washington, DC, unfortunately there were a few left untaken.
Her favorite time was spending the holidays with her family, “Girls’ days” with her daughters, attending her grandkids’ events and watching the KC Chiefs, KC Royals and KU Jayhawks games.
Clara is survived by her husband of the home and her six children, Jennifer (Steve) Strathman,
Circleville, KS; Sherri (Kent) Proffit, Seneca, KS; Keith (Deb) Niehues, Sabetha, KS; Stanley
(Gina) Niehues, Holton, KS; Tonia Evans, Wetmore, KS; and Monica (Royce) Becker, Corning, KS who will miss her immensely. Prayers to Clara’s family. She was such a light when we saw her at the clinic in Holton. My children loved talking to her.
Thank you
I’m so sorry to hear of Clara’s sudden passing. She was an amazing woman and I had the pleasure of working with her for a few years at the clinic in Holton. She was always so kind and embracing to everyone she encountered. She made me a homemade cherry cheesecake for my birthday one year which not only meant the world to me, but having the honor to enjoy any of her delicious cooking was always something to look forward too.
I have had the Great Pleasure of knowing Clara most of my life! Literally grew up with her amazing children! To say I will miss her is quite the understatement! She had such a beautiful presence! Full of Jesus faithful to His calling! She always had a kind word and an infectious laugh! I will cherish every moment I was able to be with her! My husband and I have been blessed beyond measure to call this Beautiful Woman and her precious family. …. Our family!
You are forever Loved

A prayer for your mother:
O my God, O Forgiver of sins and Dispeller of afflictions! O Thou Who art the Pardoner, the Merciful! I raise my suppliant hands to Thee, tearfully beseeching the court of Thy divine Essence to forgive, through Thy grace and clemency, Thy handmaiden who hath ascended unto the seat of truth. Cause her, O Lord, to be overshadowed by the clouds of Thy bounty and favor, immerse her in the ocean of Thy forgiveness and pardon, and enable her to enter that sanctified abode, Thy heavenly Paradise.
Thou art, verily, the Mighty, the Compassionate, the Generous, the Merciful.
Thank you do much for your prayer. It means so much!
