Clinton Carl Dodds

Seneca, Kansas

06/27/1923 - 08/10/2024

Clinton Carl Dodds, age 101, of Seneca, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Life Care Center of Seneca, with his wife Helen by his side.

Born on June 27, 1923, on a farm near Neuchatel, Kansas, Clinton was the youngest of three children of Carl and Irma Surdez Dodds. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1941 and worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the United States Navy on October 6, 1945. Serving as a Fireman First Class on the USS Philippine Sea and USS Randolph, Clinton was proud of his military service. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1947, and returned to farming.

Clinton’s first marriage to Lois Olson, though brief, brought a son, Steve (Lauri) Dodds. He later married June Zibell while she was teaching in Onaga, Kansas. Their 45-year marriage, which ended with June’s passing in 1995, was blessed with two children, Frank and Estella. They spent much of their time in Holton, Kansas, where Clinton not only farmed but also ran the Dodds House Motel for 25 years. An avid collector, Clinton enjoyed antiques, guns, and classic cars, often uncovering unique finds.

In 1996, Clinton married high school friend Helen Surdez, who brought children Linda (John) Johnson, Debbie (Larry) Boden, and Todd (Carol) Surdez into his life. Clinton is survived by his wife Helen, children Steve (Lauri) Dodds, Frank Dodds, and Estella Clark, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Seneca on August 23, 2024, from 2 to 4 P.M. A private graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Humane Society in Hiawatha, in care of the family.
