Clyde R. Jones

Clyde Reid Jones, 83, of Seneca , KS, died Friday evening, June 11, 2010 at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.
He was born on March 20, 1927 in Luray, TN, to Miles Lee and Amy Chloe (Reid) Jones. During WWII, Clyde served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater from June 1945 to December 1946. After honorable discharge, he attended the University of Tennessee Junior College in Martin, TN, graduating in June 1949. He then received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the School of Agriculture at Mississippi State College in May 1951.
After graduation, he became a traveling salesman for the Schrock Fertilizer Company, making his way to Seneca, KS. There he met Wilma Dean Welsh and married her on August 11, 1956 at the United Church of Christ in Seneca. He stayed in Seneca and opened Ralston Purina Feed Store, Farm Service and Supply, retiring in 1991.
Clyde was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masons, Seneca Lodge #39 AF & AM. He had a love for music, animals, trees and spending time with his grandkids.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Harrison Jones and Clarence Miles Jones; and three sisters, Elta Jones, Mary Woods and Gladys Stanfill.
He leaves his wife, Wilma, of almost 54 years; five children, Steve Jones and his wife Jan of Wichita, KS, Paula Jones of Seneca, Shelton Jones and his wife Pat of Seneca, Kim Jones of Seneca, and Tammy Oden and her husband Dale of Smithville, MO; a sister, Ruth Rhodes of Henderson, TN; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Clyde was a great Husband, Dad and Pappa. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, July 3, at the Seneca City Cemetery, where a tree will be planted in his name. The service will be with full military honors by the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Earl W. Taylor Post #21
