Cyril C. Holthaus

Centralia, Kansas

Cyril C. Holthaus, 76, of Centralia, Kansas, died on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Centralia.

Cyril was born July 4, 1941, on a farm west of Seneca, to Cyril F. and Emily Sudbeck Holthaus. He attended Baileyville High School in Baileyville and graduated in 1960; as a young man he helped on the family farm.

On July 7, 1962, he entered the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was assigned to the Company E, 1st Battalion, 2nd T.RB and was honorably discharge as a PVT E-4. After his service to his country, he returned to the family farm, living and farming there until his health required him to quit the life of a farmer. Cyril also made may trips to St. Joseph stock yard to bring back feeder pigs.

Cyril was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. He favorite pastime was driving around checking the health of local farm crops.

Survivors are four brothers, Leander of Seneca, Eugene, Linus and Elmer all of Centralia; two sisters, Kathleen McCaffrey of Shelton, CT and Marietta Dalinghaus of Baileyville; and many nieces and nephews.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Holthaus.

Rosaries were prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Fr. Regie Saldanha on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Draping of the pall was done by his family. The Lectors was Cindy Flenti; the giftbearers were Laurie Kramer, Trisha McNally, Cindy Flenti, Nickie Haverkamp, Tracy Broxterman, Lisa Holthaus, Shelli Slater, Janell Mueller, Sara Kramer, Gina McCaffery, Becky Jones and Kenzie Turball. Communion Distributor was Lisa Holthaus

Cyril was laid to rest in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Dean Dalinghaus, Randy Dalinghaus, Roger Holthaus, Bill Holthaus, Benji Holthaus, Kevin Holthaus and Barry McCaffery.

Full military honors were provided by the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Earl W. Taylor Post #21. A flag line was provided by the American Legion Riders Post #21.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 P.M. Monday, May 14, 2018 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

    I went to school with Cyril and also the army. He was a very special friend. We would talk tractors while ridding the school bus home.
