Dorothy E. Dick

St. Joseph, Missouri

Dorothy E. Gress Dick, 93,  died on Thursday December 13, 2018 at Living Community of St. Joseph in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Dorothy was born on January 11, 1925 on a farm northeast of Seneca, the daughter of Aloysius and Lorena Tanking Gress.   The family lived on various farms near Baileyville and St. Bridget before settling on the Gress homestead in 1937. She graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in 1942.

On January 27th, 1948, she married Kenneth J. Dick at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca, KS. They lived in Kansas City for a short time before moving to a farm near Horton, KS. They moved back to Kansas City in 1954 and eventually moved to Smithville, MO where they lived for 34 years.

Dorothy was active in the community, serving in Altar Society and PTAs. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She volunteered for over 20 years at the hospital in Smithville. She made crocheted projects for family as well as for donations to various organizations. She created books of genealogy history for her families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 2003; parents, Allie in 1985 and Lorena in 1997; and brothers, Leonard in 1959, Emmett in 1931, Charles in 2013, and Norbert in 2016.

She is survived by her children, Marlene (Bill Ebling) Dick of Newark, DE, Lois (Jim) Ussary of Platte City, MO, Carroll (Ruth) Dick of Wildwood, MO; 4 grandchildren, Matthew Ussary, Joshua Ussary, Laura Meinzen-Dick, Kevin Richardson; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Eleanor Heideman and Arlene Haverkamp both of Seneca, KS and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM and a Rosary will be prayed at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. a visitation will be 9 to 10:30 before the Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11AM on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Seneca.

Memorial contributions can be given for Project Warmth and/or Bishop Sullivan Center, and sent in care of the family.
