Dorothy M. Henry, 73, of Wetmore, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at her home in Wetmore.
She was born July 23, 1927, on a farm east of Kelly, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Josephine Sextro Boeckman. She graduated from St. Bede’s Grade School at Kelly and the Kelly High School in 1945, and later attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison for a year and Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. She worked as a secretary for John Morrell & Co. and as a bookkeeper for Henry Bros. Farm Implements and Ffog, Inc.
On May 10, 1949, she married Francis “Frenchy” Henry at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly. They lived south of Centralia for three years and northeast of Corning for three years before they bought a farm south of Bancroft. They moved to Wetmore in 1989. In 1999, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Her husband Frenchy survives of the home.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society at the church in Wetmore. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. She enjoyed all kinds of flowers, reading and most of all, spending time and visiting with her family and friends she loved so dearly.
Survivors besides her husband Frenchy are two sons, Gary Henry of Seneca and Randy Henry of Goff; six daughters, Connie Gold of Hugoton, Kansas, Marilyn Showman of Sabetha, Kansas, Sharon Claycamp of Soldier, Kansas, Lori Ann Stallbaumer of Holton, Kansas, Caroline Todd of Havensville, Kansas, and Eileen Love of Seneca, Kansas; a brother, Lawrence Boeckman of Seneca; four sisters, Augusta Hutfles and Frances Wichman, both of Seneca, and Mary Ann Schmitz and Arlene Schmitz, both of Baileyville; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence Boeckman on May 1, 1926, Raymond Boeckman on February 2, 1973, and Alvin Boeckman on September 8, 1984; two sisters, Clara Segenhagen on August 30, 1972 and Rosalia “Sally” Deters on August 8, 1992.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 7 PM Thursday and 2 & 8 PM Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for the St. Benedictine Sisters, and sent in care of the family.
